WIE International Humanitarian Technology Project Competition (WIE-IHTPC) 2018

The Women in Engineering International Humanitarian Technology Project Competition (WIE-IHTPC) 2018 was held as a segment of IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit (WIE ILS) 2018 on 12 October 2018 at BSMMU Convention Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh. WIE-IHTPC 2018 was financially sponsored by IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC), organized by Women in Engineering Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section and supported by IEEE Bangladesh Section.

With the theme of “Aspirations, Activities and Engagement of Women in Humanitarian Technology to Develop Engineering Solutions to the Challenges Faced by Women in the Society,” WIE-IHTPC 2018 aimed at offering a unique platform for the future STEM leaders to showcase their dynamic ideas, vision and solutions blended with newer and smarter technology to the problems faced by the underprivileged, deprived and vulnerable communities, especially by the women, in social, cultural and socio-economic aspects. It also gave them an opportunity to meet and connect with the esteemed and recognized experts and professionals around the world.

 

 

 

 

 

Out of 41 submissions from 5 different countries, finally 13 local and 6 international teams presented their projects in WIE-IHTPC on 12 October 2018. Based on innovation, design, performance, humanitarian aspect and presentation, the team Shakti from Yeshwanrao Chavan College of Engineering, India was announced as Champion for their project “A Complete App for Women – Shakti.” The team Nirvana from Military Institute of Science and Technology, Bangladesh was awarded as 1st Runner Up for their project “Solid Works Design of Laister Design and Waste Sorting Container” and the team Koritsi from B.M.S. College of Engineering, India was awarded as 2nd Runner Up for their project “Cost Effective Menstrual Cup.” Three other teams – Glowing Star from Yeshwanrao Chavan College of Engineering, India, BUET Lumen from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh and JU_cse_icon from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh were announced as Honorable Mentions.
