A serious problem affecting Paraguay's indigenous communities is the high rate of child undernutrition and lack of accessibility to food, one of the consequences of their poverty levels. Tilapia ponds have been implemented in these communities, but due to the lack of technical know-how and lack of support and training, production levels have been well below ideal. Furthermore, the absence of a business plan constrains the economic potential that the tilapia culture could achieve. Faced with this reality, SIGHTParaguay has decided to take up this challenge. Considering that it is an opportunity to improve the conditions in these communities, we aim to provide a solution to mitigate these serious problems by improving and creating new tilapia ponds, implementing technology such as solar water pumps and solar lighting with photovoltaic cells, and a mechanized fish harvesting system.
