About Energize the fishing village community hall through roof top solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Action
The community hall on Tuba Island is primarily used for daily and occasional community activities and also doubles as a transit station for fishermen to load and unload equipment, with around 50 boats docking daily. As it’s located far from the main island, it lacked an electric supply and relied on candles and battery-powered lights. The Sarawak Subsection SIGHT Group (SIGHT 144) successfully applied for and received IEEE Tech4Good funding, which enabled them to install a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system on the hall’s rooftop. This system provides renewable energy for lighting, fans, and electrical sockets, thereby improving the hall’s energy efficiency. The project successfully provided the hall with renewable energy, improving residents’ quality of life and promoting sustainability in this underserved community.
- 400 community members now have access to electricity in the community hall
- 50 villagers attended a training on the PV system installation and maintenance
- 1 4kW solar panel system was successfully installed
