About Design and Implementation of Solar Powered Borehole in Action
In Mgbakwu, Anambra State, Nigeria, the IEEE Nigeria Section SIGHT Group (SIGHT078) implemented a solar-powered borehole project after applying and securing funding through the IEEE Tech4Good program. The borehole was situated at Central Primary School Mgbakwu and provides water to the school, an adjacent primary school, a nearby local market, and a church. The project, which includes eight 250-watt PV modules, was welcomed by the community as the borehole ensures a continuous water supply, even during Nigeria’s frequent power outages as long as the PV modules receive adequate sunlight.
- 1 solar-powered borehole system installed
- 10 community members trained on the use and maintenance of the system
- 70% of community members had improved access to clean and safe drinking water after implementation
