IEEE HAC and IEEE SIGHT Projects Update

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world in an unprecedented manner, and as such, the IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) has adapted its requirements to better enable IEEE volunteers to contribute. For that reason, HAC and SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) Projects have joined forces to prioritize proposals that have a strong potential for immediate impact in the fight against COVID-19.

The deadline for this Special Call for Proposals has been extended through 01 June 2020 in order to continue providing resources to volunteers making an impact during this pressing situation. Proposals may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed continuously via an expedited process to allow selected projects to get started right away.

Please note that the regular IEEE HAC Projects Call for Proposals scheduled for 01 June 2020 and the regular IEEE SIGHT Projects Call for Proposals scheduled for 18 May 2020 have been postponed for the time being. This decision was made in order to protect the safety and wellbeing of our volunteers, and the community members they partner with, until a time when local and national guidelines allow for in-person community engagement and project implementation. Both the HAC & SIGHT Project Committees will reconvene in the coming months in order to determine the best course of action in regards to regular project funding for the remainder of 2020.

We will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves. Thank you very much for your support and engagement!
