Mission & Vision

Vision

Underserved communities around the world are able to benefit from technology as they seek sustainable solutions to development challenges.

Mission

The Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT) program is a network of IEEE volunteers around the globe that partner with underserved communities and local organizations to leverage technology for sustainable development.

Scope

In 2011, the SIGHT program was conceptualized and launched in Kerala, India by former IEEE Humanitarian Ad Hoc Committee Chair Amarnath Raja. Today it is a large global community of engineers and technologists that partner with their local communities to use technology to achieve socio-economic and environmental impact.

SIGHT is a member of the IEEE Humanitarian Technologies consortium of programs, and is directly managed by the IEEE Humanitarian Technologies Board (HTB). SIGHT efforts advance the mission and vision of HTB through generally smaller, local community volunteer group efforts.

To learn more about how SIGHT fits into the structure of HTB, please see the HTB Operations Manual.
