Campus Awareness Session on Humanitarian Technology in Bangladesh

Humanitarian Activities Committee of IEEE Bangladesh Section in collaboration with SIGHT FLASH–Bangladesh Section has arranged campus awareness sessions in 4 different universities in Bangladesh. IEEE BDS HAC organized these awareness sessions to encourage and motivate students to actively participate in different technology based solutions which can be used for the betterment of humanity. Mr. Mohammad Zakaria Haider, Humanitarian Activities Coordinator of IEEE Bangladesh Section has conducted all the sessions.  He mainly focused on different steps required to nurture an idea into reality using his own experiences as examples while relating the goals of IEEE BDS HAC and SIGHT in the process. He also talked about how students can be a part of local SIGHT group and contribute to the society by finding out problems and developing sustainable cost effective solution. In every awareness sessions, he discussed about the opportunities and supports that students will get from SIGHT and HAC throughout their journey. He also encouraged the enthusiastic volunteers to actively participated the upcoming events (i.e. SS12 Idea Competition and Maker Fair, IEEE R10 HTC etc. ) organized by IEEE Bangladesh Section to promote humanitarian technology among local students. IEEE BDS HAC would like to acknowledge the help and support from the respected faculty members from all the four renowned universities.

Campus Awareness Session at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET):

Humanitarian Technology Awareness Session” was successfully organized by IEEE BDS HAC in association with IEEE BUET Student Branch on 25 March 2017. The program was held in ECE Building, BUET from 5 pm to 6 pm. A group of 20 enthusiastic participants attended the program to know about SIGHT and HAC. Feedbacks were taken from the students on what problems they wanted to solve being a part of SIGHT.  The students were courageous enough to develop a cost effective solution for physically challenged people.

Campus Awareness Session at Dhaka University (DU):

IEEE Student Branch DU successfully co-organized a Humanitarian Technology Awareness Session for IEEE Student Branch DU on 23 April 2017 at the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, University of Dhaka. Mr. Walid Bin Habib, Chair of IEEE DU Student Branch coordinated the session. IEEE Dhaka university Student branch is planning to form their own SIGHT group and focusing on developing a low cost solar power management system, solar charge controller, inverter etc.

HAC Awareness program at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET):

On 9 April 2017, IEEE RUET Student Branch hosted an event entitled ‘Humanitarian Technology Awareness Session’ for promoting humanitarian technology among the students, supported by IEEE Bangladesh Section HAC and FLASH SIGHT. The program was a successful one with more than 40 participants. Tasnim Binte Shawkat, Lecturer, RUET , helped tremendously to host this session. RUET is also taking initiatives to form SIGHT group at their university to promote humanitarian projects among students and focusing on developing solutions for local farmers.

HAC Awareness Program at Varendra University:

As a part of creating awareness and involving non-student branch members of IEEE Bangladesh Section with humanitarian technology, IEEE BDS HAC has organized one of their awareness sessions in Varendra University, Rajshahi on 9 April 2017. Dr. Nurul H. Choudhury, Pro Vice Chancellor of Varendra University inaugurated the program. Muhammad Sajjadur Rahim, Coordinator, Dept. of EEE, took the initiatives to organize the events. More than 60 enthusiastic students from ECE department attended the program. The discussion was followed by very informative and interactive question and answers sessions. The faculty members and students are very interested in opening an IEEE Student Branch at their university and promote humanitarian projects in the local area.
